The Saudi government has announced a significant increase in customs duty rates on over 2000 products starting from 10 June 2020. Products affected range from foodstuffs, steel, building materials, vehicles and textiles. While some commodities will only see a marginal increase, others will see noticeable rises such as base metals including steel, machinery and specific meat and dairy products. The changes follow the previously announced trebling of VAT to 15% from 1 July 2020 in response to the economic impact of Covid-19 and low oil prices
