SBJBC is delighted to share that Dammam Airports Company (DACO) has awarded a design contract to SBJBC member, WSP, for the development of King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) in Dammam in line with the airport’s approved master plan.
The agreement was signed by Eng. Mohammed Al-Hassany, CEO of Dammam Airports, and Dean McGrail, President of WSP for the Middle East and Asia.
Under the contract, WSP will provide design services for the planned development and expansion of King Fahd International Airport, covering passenger terminal infrastructure, airport facilities, access infrastructure, and a range of passenger-facing systems.
The scope includes the design of passenger terminal expansions, upgrades to existing airport facilities, and improvements to airport entrances and access roads. The project also covers the development of baggage handling systems, digital passenger services, and terminal wayfinding systems aimed at streamlining airport procedures and improving the overall passenger experience.
The development forms part of Dammam Airports’ wider plans to transform King Fahd International Airport into a modern international gateway for Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, supported by advanced technologies and expanded infrastructure.
According to the approved master plan, KFIA is targeted to accommodate more than 19.3 million passengers annually by 2030. Passenger capacity is planned to increase in phases to reach 32 million passengers per year to meet longer-term travel demand.
The master plan also targets an increase in the airport’s air cargo handling capacity to more than 600,000 tonnes annually, while aircraft operational capacity is planned to reach 77 movements per hour.
To support these targets, the airport development program includes comprehensive expansion and enhancement of airport infrastructure, runways and general aviation facilities, alongside upgrades to passenger terminals and operational systems.
Eng. Mohammed Al-Hassany said the signing of the design contract represents a significant milestone in the continued development of King Fahd International Airport. He highlighted Dammam Airports’ commitment to expanding airport capacity, upgrading facilities and delivering a seamless travel experience through modern design solutions and smart technologies.
The contract forms part of Dammam Airports’ ongoing efforts to enhance the airport ecosystem, improve operational efficiency and support the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Aviation Program and Saudi Vision 2030, while strengthening KFIA’s role as an international gateway connecting the Eastern Province with global markets and destinations.
