Journey to Net Zero
The United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia have important roles to play in the journey to net zero.
The UK led the world during the industrial revolution, being among the first countries to mechanise production through exploitation of fossil fuels.
Likewise, Saudi Arabia’s hydrocarbons have lifted billions out of poverty across the globe and continue to be a mainstay in global energy markets. Both countries have set ambitious goals for renewables and cleantech which their public and private sectors are activating. The Saudi UK Tech Hub has worked towards this and continues to link cleantech innovators in both Kingdoms.

Saudi Arabia has comitted to reaching net zero by 2060, bringing renewables to supply half of the domestic energy mix by 2030, and gigaprojects such as NEOM will be powered entirley by clean energy.
Relating to entrepeneurship and innovation, Saudi hosts a selection of world class institutions such as the King Abdullah University for Science and Technology and KACST at the forefront of cleantech research.
Deeptech has recieved a particular focus, and our partners at the Ministry of Communications and IT are hard at work promoting this within the Kingdom. Furthermore, the tight deadlines set by projects such as NEOM are fostering innovation in areas such as solar desalination and green hydrogen.
The UK is widely recognised as one of the most advanced countries in the green transition, with an act of parliament passed to ensure the country reaches net zero by 2050. Academic institutions accross the country are global leaders and renewable energy already makes up a significant proportion of the country’s energy mix. Within this, a particular sector of focus is offshore wind, and the country’s Dogger Bank is the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
The Saudi UK Tech Hub works to connect entrepeneurs, ip, and capital in cleantech between the two Kingdoms. To see an example of our work, see the link below:
