On 8th February SBJBC held a launch event in the City of London for Lumina Adviser’s latest Cross Border Insights Paper ‘A pivotal moment for the Middle East as an engine of global growth and dealmaking’.
The report examinesd key themes driving deal making between the UK and the Middle East. The event featured discussion revolving around the following areas:
- UK-to-Middle East and North Africa (MENA) cross-border trade and deal activity surged in 2022, despite oncoming global economic headwinds
- Record levels of KSA and UAE FDI seen, with USD40bn invested, a 58% YoY increase
- Highest ever UK listed plc revenue contribution from the MENA region – rising to 15%, from 12%, 4 years ago.
- Growth in bilateral UK – Middle East transactions covering gaming, engineering, automobiles, logistics, telecoms, clean energy and manufacturing
- Dramatic shift in the capital raising environment, with VC bright spots still remaining in digital transformation, deep tech, AI and cybersecurity; – 2023 to see a resurgence in regional Private Equity and exciting growth in secondaries funds
- 2023 also anticipated to be a tale of two halves, with global recession fears in H1 shifting to improved sentiment and recovery in H2
Andrew Nichol and Gareth Williams, partners at Lumina, led the session. Lumina has a presence in Dubai, Riyadh & London and focuses on matching capital and transactions between the Middle East and the UK.
